Frequently Asked Questions
Here is a sampling of the most frequently asked questions concerning
the Pottruck Family Foundation grants program:
May we apply for general operating support?
Yes.
May we apply for multi-year funding?
No.While the Foundation may decide to award a multi-year grant,
applicants should apply for one-year support.
My project is similar to one the Foundation funded under "Special
Projects". May we apply in that category?
No. Unsolicited proposals are not accepted for Special Projects/Trustee
Designated grants.
Are there any deadlines?
No. Proposals may be submitted throughout the year.
Should we send a letter of inquiry (LOI) or a full proposal?
You are welcome to send an LOI, though it is usually more expedient
to call the Foundation and if invited, to send a full proposal.
How long will it take for the Foundation to respond to our request?
Our goal is to acknowledge receipt of proposals within 1 week. However,
it could take 3-4 months to make a funding decision. If your proposal
is being considered for funding, it is likely you will be in contact
with a Foundation staff person who will keep you apprised of the
status of your request.
How long should proposals be?
Most of the proposals we receive tend to be 5-10 pages in length;
brevity and clarity are appreciated. Please refer to the "Proposal
Check List" to ensure your proposal is complete.
.
How much should we ask for?
Most grants are in the $10,000-$20,000 range. Feel free to call
the office and ask what amount seems appropriate.
.What
if the budget for the year in which the funds will be used has not
been approved by our board?
You may submit a draft budget in addition to a budget for the current
year.
May we submit proposals electronically?
Not initially, though if accepted for board review, you may be asked
to submit pieces of it electronically. All proposals should be sent
by mail to:
